It Takes Rp1.437 Tln to Develop E Kalimantan's Border Region

SAMARINDA, KOMPAS.com - From 2009 to 2011 the funds for building the border region between East Kalimantan and East Malaysia have reached Rp1.437 trillion, including Rp884.24 billion of the State budget, Rp553,54 billion of the East Kalimantan budget.

"The Rp884.24 billion of the state budget consisted of Rp18.37 billion for 2009, Rp1.79 billion for 2010, and Rp864.07 billion for 2011," East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak said in Samarinda recently.

In the meantime, the budget of the regional budget amounting to Rp553.54 billion, consisted of Rp145.57 billion for 2009, Rp151.86 billion for 2010, and Rp256.11 billion for 2011. With the two financial resources the provincial administration has set several programs for accellerated development of the border region, with a view to increasing the development of infrastructure and empowerment of the people.

The development program priority for the border region covers the building of roads and bridges, plantations along the border, development of economic growth centers, building border crossing posts, and assistance in the form of subsidies for border and inland transportation costs.

Whereas several strategies for overcoming border problems by the central government included state border lines with international diplomatic potentials.

Other strategies are on accellerated solution to border lines and the making of state border laws, overcoming development imbalances with accelerated development of means and facilities. Then the problem of raising the welfare of the local people, increasing human resources, optimizing the management of local resources both human, social and cultural, economic and nature.

With regard to defense and security, it is necessary to increase means and facilities for defense and security, increasing control of illegal activities including forest felling, poaching and illegal mining.

Others which are also very important for the government is increasing and promoting the nationality of the people, and optimizing the management of border crossing posts and border crossing inspection between the two countries.

He said the dynamics of the problems in the border areas need bigger attention from the central government and regional administrations and it is important to maintain the regional development.
